Response to COVID- 19

For Immediate Release: March 18, 2020

At Cofield Mortuary, our top priority is to serve the community with total compassionate care, including the health and safety of our staff and bereaved families.

On March 23, 2020, NC Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order prohibiting mass gatherings of more than 50 people for 30 days due to COVID-19. MASS GATHERINGS has been defined as "any event or convening that brings together more than 50 persons in a single space at the same time", (Executive Order Number 117, Section 1A, 2020). Violation of this order may be subject to prosecution and a Class 2 Misdemeanor. We are aware of the challenges the order presents to those who are preparing to honor the lives of their loved ones and we are available to address your questions and concerns.

In addition to the best practices, procedures, and legal sanitation requirements already in place by Cofield Mortuary, we have implemented the following guidelines by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent the unintentional spread of germs:

  • Cleaning hands with antibacterial soap and warm water for 20 seconds
  • Practicing social distancing
  • Requiring anyone exhibiting symptoms of illness to stay at home
  • Thoroughly cleaning hard surface and high traffic area
  • Limiting physical contact such as hugging, shaking hands, kissing on cheeks and etc.

We encourage you to join us in exercising total compassionate care by implementing these same procedures. For more information about COVID-19, please visit https:///www.cdc.gov, https://www.who.int. or https://www.ncdhhs.gov.

If you have any questions about funeral services at Cofield Mortuary in regards to COVID-19, you may call us at 252-536-3171.

Sincerely,

Cofield Mortuary
